Updating the Software Version
It's a simple process to update to a new version of Switchvox, but it's important that you follow these basic instructions to ensure that your update goes smoothly.
Read the Release Notes
The Switchvox Release Notes include all of the enhancements or changes in the update, and a list of issues (bugs) that have been resolved in the update. This is helpful to understand exactly what's going to happen when you update to the new version.
- To read the release notes from the Switchvox web suite:
- Go to Server > Maintenance > Updates.
- Find the most current update available in the list.
- Click more info... for that update.
Download the Update
- Go to Server > Maintenance > Updates.
- Locate the most recent software update in the list.
- For that update, click Download to download the current update file to this Switchvox.
This does not actually update Switchvox, it simply brings the necessary files to your Switchvox.
The download process could take awhile, so do not plan on updating at the same time that you download.
If you see an error indicating that the system is offline, follow the recommendations made by the error message, and get the system back online before trying to download the update.
Before you apply the Update
- Go to Server > Maintenance > Backups.
- Create and download a backup.
- Locate your Switchvox installation disk.
- Make sure that your backup file(s) and your installation disk are easily accessible.
- Ensure that no one is currently using Switchvox, and allow ample time to complete the update.
Apply the Update
- Go to Server > Maintenance > Updates.
- Locate the Update that you downloaded.
- Click the Update icon.
Important: Do not refresh your web browser. To check on the status of the update, go to:
https://YourSwitchvox/admin?cmd=check_update
If you see an error indicating that the system is offline, follow the recommendations made by the error message, and get the system back online before trying to apply the update.
After the Update
- Check Server > Diagnostics > Connection Status to make sure that phones are registered and there are no new alarms.
- Check Server > Networking > IP Configuration to make sure that those settings are correct.
- Make a call from a Switchvox extension to another extension, and to an external phone number.
- If possible, make a call into Switchvox (e.g., from a mobile phone), and ensure that your main IVR is responding normally.
- If appropriate, check sending and receiving of faxes.
Important: Always create a new backup after an Update.
