Re-installing Switchvox
In the unlikely event that you need to reinstall Switchvox, follow these instructions to ensure the process goes smoothly.
Determine which version of Switchvox you are running:
- Go to Server > Maintenance > Updates
- Find the Current Version under Current System Info
- Make a note of the version number.
Make a Backup
First, take a full backup of your system. If you are not able to access your system to do a backup then and older backup that you have downloaded will suffice, but you may lose more recent data.
- Make a note of the current software version number. You can find that information on the Server > Maintenance > Updates page.
- Go to Server > Maintenance > Backups.
- Click Create Backup. This may take several minutes; do not interrupt the process. It should not affect any current calls in your system. After you click the "Create Backup" button, you will be directed to a wait screen while the backup file is created. After the backup is created, the Backups page is displayed with the new backup in the Backups list.
- Click Download to save the backup to your desktop computer. The backup may include multiple files. Be sure to put it in a location from which it can be easily accessed to restore your system.
Install the Software
You can install the software from the install-media that was supplied with the system, or Switchvox Technical Support can create an ISO for you to download and burn. If your current software version is 5.0 or later, you need to burn to a DVD.
- Insert the disk that came with Switchvox into the drive. If your unit does not have a drive, you'll need an external USB drive. If you get prompted to choose a driver for the external drive, choose USB storage driver for Linux.
- Turn on the Switchvox appliance.
- Press ENTER to begin the install. This formats the Hard Drive.
- Select your timezone.
Switchvox installs, reboots, and then requests network information.
- Enter the static IP information, or choose DHCP. Switchvox restarts.
- Log into the web suite.
Register the Software
You need to register Switchvox with the same registration code that you previously used.
- Go to https://<IPofyourPBX>/admin and log in with 'admin' for both the username and the password fields.
- Go to Server > Maintenance > Registration.
- Enter your registration information. It does not have to match up with any account information, so you can make corrections if you need to.
- Enter the Registration Code, with 4 characters in each field in uppercase.
When Switchvox is registered, then you can update to the same version as your backup file, if necessary. If you're unsure, the filename of the backup file should contain the version number you want to update to.
SVBACKUP_2009-12-11-15-42-6_18775-214-business.svb
In the example file name above, 18775 is the version number.
To see the updates available for your system go to Server > Maintenance > Updates.
After you're on the same version as the backup file, it's time to restore the backup.
- Go to Server > Maintenance > Backups.
- Click Upload & Restore Backup.
- Browse to your backup file and upload.
Once the backup has been restored, be sure that Switchvox is functioning as expected. For details, see Managing Backups.
